Value Proposition
A handicraft, sometimes more precisely expressed as artisanal handicraft, is any of a wide variety of types of work where useful and decorative objects are made completely by hand or by using only simple tools. It is a traditional main sector of craft, and applies to a wide range of creative and design activities that are related to making things with one's hands and skill, including work with textiles, moldable and rigid materials, paper, and plant fibers. Usually the term is applied to traditional techniques of creating items (whether for personal use or as products) that are both practical and aesthetic. Handicrafting has its roots in the rural crafts the material-goods necessities of ancient civilizations, and many specific crafts have been practiced for centuries, while others are modern inventions, or popularization of crafts which were originally practiced in a limited geographic area. In Sabah, Many handicrafter use natural, even entirely indigenous, materials while others may prefer modern, non-traditional materials, and even up cycle industrial materials. The individual artisanship of a handicraft item is the paramount criterion; those made by mass production or machines are not handicraft goods. One of the most popular places that sales handicraft in Star City shopping mall. Many types of handicraft sales here. most of them make their own handicraft.

Nature of business
Traditionally, handicraft among the indigenous people is personal use, mostly by the people in rural areas. Nevertheless, with the growing of personal and family needs as well as the presence of demand for their handicrafts, some handicraft producers have produced handicraft for commercial purposes. Nowadays, there are handicraft producers who produce handicraft as souvenirs for export and tourism industry. Sabah handicraft has been segmented into four different major categories namely textile (batik and weaving, embroidery), forestry (woodcraft, bamboo and rattan), earthen-based (ceramic, pottery) as well as metal and mineral (silver and brass). The most populated categories are forest-based and textile-based handicraft producers. The activity of making handicraft is quite apparent among the female. Women’s participation in handicraft production is mainly in hand-woven materials, especially textile, basket and bead-making, while the men are actively involved in the production of metal-based handicraft, most are engaged in semi-mechanized production like sword (parang), brass-gong and wood carving. Generally, the handicraft shop only used an offline business. The owner have a stall to promote their handicraft to everyone. For them, having a stall will make them to have a direct marketing with customers.

Evaluation
Shop 1 : Bastari Jaya
Shop 2 : Sinombiaka Ethnic Traditional Costume
Shop 3 : Rinago
All three shops are specialized in retail, selling, distributing, renting their product namely the traditional costume, accessories, handmade handicraft, souvenir etc. The pros of having handicraft market are to promote and sell the local products which represent Sabah. Among the ways to promote handicraft shop is to market them in a flyer or travel brochure and put at the tourist hotspot such as tourist information counter, travel agent counter, airport etc. Other than that, in this modern technology where most people are connected through the internet, we can upload some pictures and information about these shops in the internet or certain website. Also, they can participate in a “tamu” or market such as the Gaya Street Sunday Market, where they can open up a booth and showcase and sell their products to tourist and local people. Lastly, they can promote their products through advertisement via the radio, television or magazine and newspaper.
